February 2009 - Recently, the Georgia Tech Associate Chapter made a big achievement in terms of community service. Most of their projects are with Hands on Atlanta (the biggest community service group around here) and in doing many many projects with them over the last year, the Georgia Tech Associate Chapter were able to win a very prestigious award.
This award is called the President's Volunteer Service Award and is offered on three levels, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The chapter shot for the highest one (Gold) and were able to obtain it by doing over 500 hours of service in a year.
Hands on Atlanta was very impressed with and invited the chapter to a special award presentation in tandem with their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Summit. The event took place in a church, where the chapter was presented with the award. Something they did not know, however, was that Elder Bernice King was in attendance (Martin Luther King Jr's youngest daughter). She along with many other famous people spoke about service and were very impressed with the chapter.
